The Home Almanac

The Daily Seed

One hidden five-letter word a day, drawn from the garden, the workshop, and the seasons. Six tries. A fresh word lands every morning. No account, nothing to install.

How to play

Guess the day's five-letter word in six tries. Type a word and press Enter. Each tile then tells you how close you were: a filled green tile is the right letter in the right spot, a gold tile is a letter that is in the word but somewhere else, and a plain tile is a letter that is not in the word at all. Use those clues to narrow it down. There is no clock and no penalty for thinking it over.

Every word comes from the world this Almanac keeps, and it is chosen in season: frost, cedar, and woodsmoke in the deep of winter; bloom, basil, and berries at the height of summer. The same word shows for everyone on the same day, so you can compare notes. Your streak and progress are kept in this browser only, with no account and nothing sent anywhere.

A new word at local midnight, drawn from the season you are in. Hundreds of words in rotation, so a word is rare to see twice.
